"Selecting a Setting for Writing"

                                                         Selecting a Setting for Writing

Before you begin to write, whether it be for a school paper, a journal entry, etc., what kind of setting do you prefer? For example, I like to write alone in a very quiet place such as my room or in an area of the library. I have a hard time focusing when I sit at a place like Starbucks and can hear other conversations going on in the background.

Now it's your turn!

  1. I like to write in my room with soft music in the back ground, if its a pretty day I will open the windows. Fresh air and a breeze keeps me happy. Sometimes I even like to write a first draft outside in the sun and then work from there in my room.

  3. Katie, I am right there with you. I live in an apartment and like to open my balcony door to let some fresh air in while I'm doing schoolwork because it really puts me in a better mood too! The weather has been so great this weekend, why not soak it up?

  4. Katie,

I agree! I have to be in a quiet setting. Starbucks, or places like that just don't work for me. I normally like to work in my classroom after school, or at my house when no one is around.

  5. Ashley,

Reading in a public setting or around people is no problem for me, but writing requires a deeper level of thought and focus. When I'm around people, I get distracted so easily and lose my train of thought!

  6. Katie, I can write anywhere if I need to (especially if I've been procrastinating and the heat is on to get the content produced), but if I had to choose my favorite place, it would be a quiet study room in the library. I work best when I'm not around any distractions. As much as I love my recliner at my house, it is way too comfortable to be in when I'm trying to get something accomplished.
